Bonhams|Cars – Well-known television personality and petrolhead Richard Hammond will be an attendee of Bonhams|Cars’ forthcoming sale at the Goodwood Revival on Saturday, September 9th in Chichester, Goodwood, UK.
With a film crew in tow, Hammond will be following ardently the sale of a beautifully presented 1989 Lancia Delta Integrale. The restoration of this classic eighties icon has been carried out by The Smallest Cog, the classic car restoration business Richard has set up in Hereford, and will feature in the next series of Richard Hammond’s Workshop to be aired on discovery+ in October 2023.
Adding further significance, the reborn Lancia is offered by the owner of the Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park in Devon and proceeds from the sale will directly contribute towards the funding of a new enclosure for the park’s pair of critically endangered Amur Leopards with the park planning to participate in the international breeding programme once built.
“The Delta Integrale is a legendary car. This one has been brought back to life to raise funds to benefit rare leopards at the owner’s wildlife park, which makes it even more legendary. Not a full restoration but a very, very thorough refresh,” said Hammond.
With its legendary World Rally Championship winning heritage and timeless Giorgetto Giugiaro designed lines, the highly desirable competition bred hatchback holds a very special place in both motoring and motor sport history.
Road-going versions, such as the beautifully restored 8-valve version coming under the Bonhams|Cars hammer, offer limpet-like grip via an advanced, all-wheel-drive transmission as well as turbocharged performance from a potent 2.0-litre, twin-cam, four-cylinder engine producing a not-inconsiderable 182bhp. No surprise that these deeply charismatic high-performers with their suitably muscular wheel-arches are so sought-after by enthusiasts.
Good examples are increasingly hard to find and thus this beautifully revived Italian icon, dating back to the Turinese company’s much-heralded heydays in the eighties, is sure to attract serious attention, in addition to its brush with TV fame. Estimated at £20,000 – £30,000, the car is offered without a reserve so it is certain to find a new home.

Other highlights of the Bonhams|Cars Goodwood Revival Sale include the seminal Martini Racing Team Porsche Carrera RSR ‘R8’ which finished fourth at Le Mans in 1973, an amazing collection of seven Series 1 Land Rovers, an iconic 1943 Vickers Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX and, intriguingly, an ex-works Lancia Rally 037 Evo 2 from the fearsome Group B era.
The Goodwood Revival Sale commences at 10:30 on Saturday, September 9 preceded by a preview on Thursday 7 September and Friday, September 8 (09:00-17:00).
