Old Cars spotlights a reader’s 1957 Oldsmobile 88
For Bill Webb ’57 Olds 88s have a special spot in his heart. I cant’ do the story justice, so I’ll let Bill tell you why…
I bought my first car in Nov. 1967 for $ 15. It was a Black 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Sedan. My Girlfriend (now wife of 52 years) and I went everywhere in “our” ’57, to NYC, beaches, drive-in movies until July of 1969 when I left for Navy boot camp. Before I left I bought a 1963 Nova for my girlfriend Sue with a brand new “Earl Scheib” $ 19.95 paint job. She wanted the ’57 Olds but it needed too much work.
We married the next year while I was in the Navy. She never forgave me for not giving her that Olds and reminded me every year. After 4 children and my retirement from the USPS in 2008, she bought us a Red/White 1957 Oldsmobile 88 Holiday Sedan (no post) as our memories car ( reliving old memories as well as making new ones ). We also bought a 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Convertible in 2013… In season we go to cruise nights almost every night and car shows on the weekends.
