Honor hosted a two-day conference on November 22nd and November 23rd, 2022, in Shenzhen China, introducing its new MagicOS 7.0, as well as its new Honor 80 series and new foldable device Magic Vs to the market. We attended the events on site.
MagicOS 7.0 is based on Android 13. The OS skin will be available on Honor-branded smartphones in the future. It aims to replace the current device-based experience with the user-centric experience which across devices and systems for Honor users. To achieve the goal, MagicOS 7.0 incorporates four system-level services / capabilities, which are Magic Ring, Magic Live, Turbo X and Magic Guard. They are used for multi-device operations, AI-based recommendations, system optimization and data protection, respectively. Among them, Magic Ring is the core function behind multidevice user experience, as it allows several devices to be connect automatically under the same Honor account with lower power consumption. We consider the new MagicOS 7.0 is a step forward for the brand’s 1+8+N ecosystem strategy.
Honor 80 series and Magic Vs are the two major products launched in the event. Honor 80 series is positioned as AI Vlog devices. It extends computational photography to videography. Similar as its predecessors, the new devices seem to be more female-oriented. Magic Vs on the other hand is Honor’s true hero device under the shining spot. It is a foldable device competing via slimness and long battery life. Honor demoed various productivity-related features in the event and the device seems to be more male-oriented. Meanwhile, the pricing of Magic Vs is relatively affordable for its hardware specifications. It will be among the first non-Samsung booklet foldables coming to international markets in 2023. This will help the penetration of foldables into the general market and intensified competition also helps the healthy growth of the segment.
