Apple’s total global smartphone shipments went up +6% annually to 48.5 million units in Q3 2022 – very solid quarterly results in a challenging economic environment, significantly outperforming its competitors and the overall market, which declined -9% YoY in Q3 2022. In Q2 2022 Apple’s ASP went down due to the release of the lower-priced iPhone SE, but in Q3 2022 the ASP managed to bounce back after the launch of the iPhone 14 series.
On a model basis, our Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service estimate iPhone 13 leads the pack in Q3 2022, followed by iPhone 14 Pro with and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Historically, iPhone’s base model has always sold the best within the respective series. With the iPhone 14 that was not the case and both Pro models outsold the base iPhone 14 model in Q3 2022.
