NEWPORT, R.I. – In time for Father’s Day, the Newport Car Museum has added a dramatically styled pearl red-and-black 2006 Bugatti Veyron to its center stage in the World Car Gallery. A true hypercar, the Bugatti Veyron remains one of the fastest production cars in the world with 1001 horsepower and a top speed of over 250 mph. Achieving such spectacular performance in a racing engine is one thing, but doing so in a reliable, refined, durable, and emissions-legal street configuration is quite another, and for that reason the Bugatti Veyron is an automotive marvel of the 21st Century.
Dads are invited to enjoy the Bugatti and the rest of the Museum’s constantly evolving private collection of over 90 iconic, rare, and exotic cars free of charge* on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18 and Monday, June 19. The introduction of the Bugatti Veyron marks the Newport Car Museum’s six-year Anniversary in June. Along with it on the World Car’s center stage is the Museum’s brilliant magma orange 2014 McLaren P1, successor to the McLaren F1. One of the most technically complex cars ever, this limited production plug-in hybrid hypercar is closer to the complexity of an aircraft than a conventional car and is considered part of the Holy Trinity of the top three most powerful cars in the world today. (The Porsche 918 Spyder, which the Museum also has on display, and the Ferrari LaFerrari are the other two.)
Rounding out the World Car Gallery’s center-stage threesome is a sentimental favorite with visitors: the jet black 2019 McLaren Senna supercar that is one of 500 examples produced to commemorate Ayrton Senna’s success with the McLaren Formula 1 team from 1988 to 1993.
In the world of car collecting there are sports cars, supercars and hypercars. Sports cars deliver exhilarating handling and precision, while supercars take that to the next level with even lower acceleration times and even higher top speeds. Hypercars top that again, typically offering more than 800 horsepower, going from 0 to 60 in under three seconds, and hitting top speeds ranging from 215 to 270 miles per hour.
By adding the Bugatti Veyron, the Newport Car Museum further defines its kinship with car lovers around the world and perhaps with Ettore Bugatti himself, whose motto was “If comparable, it’s no longer Bugatti.”

More About the Newport Car Museum
The Newport Car Museum’s private collection of over 90 cars is one of the largest open to the public and represents eight decades of modern industrial design, starting with the 1950s and finishing with new models from the 21st Century. Displayed in Six Galleries and a Pop-Up Porsche Exhibit, the collection tells the story of Ford/Shelby, Corvettes, World Cars, Fin Cars, Mopars and American Muscle. The cars sit on low platforms, some that rotate and all that allow up-close and personal inspection of exterior angles, curves, and embellishments as well as interior controls, gear shifts, seats, and dashboards. Once a month, the Museum also offers “Hoods Up!” Weekends, where engines on all the cars can be inspected.
Rounding out the Museum experience are specially commissioned large-format art pieces, award-winning videos and a worthy-in-its-own-right collection of Mid-20th Century Modern furnishings, some of it used for comfortable seating throughout 80,000 square feet of exhibit space. As a bonus, an expansive gift shop offers its own colorful gallery-style experience, starting with the mesmerizing sight of a motorized six-foot-high K’NEX Ferris Wheel at its entrance.
