ORLANDO, Fla. — 22 years and nine movies later, the cars from “The Fast and The Furious Franchise” continue to be some of the most recognizable film props for movie lovers and car enthusiasts alike. “Fast X” releases in theaters on May 19, 2023, and the Orlando Auto Museum at Dezerland Action Park Orlando has vehicles fans of the franchise will be racing to see up close.
If visitors are looking for a car that’s been a part of the action on screen, the Orlando Auto Museum is the place to be. The museum is home to one of the stunt cars used in “Fast & Furious 4,” the Buick Grand National driven by Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto as he speeds down the highway in reverse. It may look like just a beat-up car on the outside, but a peek inside reveals some serious movie magic.
The car may look like it’s driving in reverse, but the body of the car was flipped 180 degrees, so what looks like the front of the car, is actually the back of the vehicle. A stunt driver sits sideways in what appears to be the back of the car and navigates with a steering wheel to his left, a concealed gear shift on his right and the gas and brake pedals directly behind the actor’s seat. How does the driver stay hidden in the shots? He hides under a blanket with a camera monitor that’s receiving video feed from a tiny camera in the license plate strapped to his chest and navigates solely based on what he sees on the screen.
The museum also has a car honoring a fan-favorite character. While the original bright green 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor has been bought and sold several times, the Orlando Auto Museum is home to a tribute car made by Auto Creations that looks just like the car used on screen in the first “The Fast and The Furious” film in 2001.
The vehicles from “The Fast and The Furious” are only a few of the over 2,000 exciting vehicles worth over $ 200 million in the Orlando Auto Museum at Dezerland Action Park.
