HMD (Nokia) handset shipments continue to slide down, but the decline in volumes was offset by a huge ASP growth and a solid profit in Q3 2022. The positive financials are a result of the greater smartphone mix in the company’s overall handset volumes.
On a regional basis, HMD (Nokia) grew smartphone shipments in three of the six global regions – North America, Western Europe and Central & Latin America. In Western Europe, HMD overtook OPPO to become the fourth largest vendor in the region in Q3 2022, its highest position in the last three years.
HMD accelerated its transition to 5G, with the release of more 5G smartphones in Q3 2022, like Nokia X30 5G and Nokia G60 5G, launched at the IFA event in Berlin in September 2022.
The departure of HMD’s CEO, Florian Seiche, and the subsequent closure of the HMD Connect service, raises questions about the challenges ahead and whether further changes are to be expected.
