HMD (Nokia) handset shipments continue to slide down; despite the decline in volumes, the estimated handset wholesale ASP was high, thanks to the larger smartphones mix out of total shipments in Q4 2022. The smartphone and featurephone shipment also dropped with the global handset decline.
The company registered an annual decline in all regions except North America, where it posted a double-digit growth rate in the smartphone section thanks to the progress in the prepaid segment. HMD maintained its fourth largest vendor in Western Europe in Q4 2022 and continued to take advantage of OPPO’s problems in the region and continued to overtake the Chinese company.
HMD (Nokia) remained at number 14 in the global smartphone vendor ranking in Q4 2022. HMD’s 5G-enabled smartphones shipment made a significant improvement from the last quarter. Still, the company is behind other major vendors in terms of 5G adoption.
The cooperation between HMD Global and Zeiss was discreetly discontinued. HMD Global signed a new partnership/license arrangement with Clear Imaging Research, an imaging and video technology research and licensing company that does imaging and video technology research and licensing to infuse fresh life into its phones.
HMD has elevated Co-founder and Executive Chairman Jean-Francois Baril to the Chairman & CEO of the company. This comes after the Chief Executive of HMD, Florian Seiche, left the company in October. Now, we need to see what will happen in the future.
