Mobile World Congress (MWC Barcelona) – the largest and arguably the most important mobile industry event – is back again, taking place in Barcelona, Spain, from 26th Feb 2023 to 3rd Mar 2023, exhibiting plethora of new devices and setting the hottest trends in 2023.
As usual, TechInsights (earlier Strategy Analytics) is there, and if you want to meet our devices analysts at the show, click here.
On day one, we are turning our attention to interesting devices launch from Xiaomi. The 13 series! The Chinese vendor introduced two devices which were already launched in China to rest of the world as part of number series named Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 respectively. On top of it, they also launched Xiaomi 13 lite, a device to cater to the larger audience.
Some key specs for the Xiaomi 13 Pro are 6.73” AMOLED with 120 Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, triple camera setup (50MP primary sensor+50MP Ultrawide+50MP telephoto). For Xiaomi 13, the key ones are 6.36” compact OLED, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, triple camera setup (50MP primary sensor+10MP telephoto+12MP ultrawide).
13 lite on the other hand features Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, a curved 6.55” AMOLED display, dual camera setup (50MP primary+8MP ultrawide). It kind of looks odd that the premium devices get the flattened screen and lite version has the curved ones.
The key highlight is the collaboration with Leica for the 13 and 13 Pro which they have thoroughly marketed and advertised across different platforms. This is a big camera improvement on camera quality. Another key highlight is superfast 120W charge support on the Pro while the other two models enjoys 67W charge support.
What’s bad about the launch was the price for the Pro. The Xiaomi 13 Pro in Europe starts from EUR 1,299 for the base variant which looks a little toppy considering the availability of Korean giant’s Samsung S23 Ultra with key specs like 200MP primary camera, 100X zoom capabilities, premium looking curved screen and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC at only EUR 100 higher (EUR 1399).
For this price point, a consumer would easily shift to Samsungs and Apples of the world and get S23 Ultra for EUR 1399 or an Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max for EUR 1339.
